About
DAWN ALTMAN, MS, LPC and My Approach to Therapy
I believe that anxiety, depression, loss of vitality, disordered eating, and addictions are symptoms of a deeper issue whose root cause must be treated in order to fully heal. Together, we will work to understand and heal the issues that are impeding your well-being, while doing the deep emotional work that results in a reconnection with ourselves and creates lasting change. My approach is multi-faceted and is grounded in the principles psychodynamic, relational and attachment theory. Often what ails us in the present has it’s roots in the past. Therefore, we may visit the past to learn and to heal, while focusing on steps we can take in the here and now to help us live more authentically.
Asking ourselves deep, meaningful questions leads to the beginning of powerful transformation. I provide a safe, warm, and inviting space for you to begin to explore your feelings and create more meaning and purpose in your life.
I hold a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Villanova University, and am licensed as a Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
I have been privileged to study Archetypal and Cross Cultural Psychology for the past 10 years with Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Senior Jungian Analyst, at her Archetypal and Cross-Cultural Studies program in Colorado, and am currently enrolled as an Analytic Candidate in the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts.
Located in Bryn Mawr, PA on the Main line, I have been practicing yoga for over 40 years, and have been teaching yoga and mindfulness for 12 years. My experience as a yoga teacher and therapist allows me to integrate mind, body, and spiritual practices into therapy, allowing for a more holistic experience. The language of the body, particularly as it relates to emotions and trauma, is a second language to me.
